My Disney Audition!

Alright guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while BUT on March 8 I attended a Disney audition in Charlotte, NC. Although I can not tell too much about it, I can give y'all some advice for preparing and a overview of what we did. First thing is how to prepare. You do not need a headshot or resume for this audition unless you are auditioning for a full time role. DCP roles do not require a resume because you do not have to have any previous experience and they will take pickets of you themselves possibly. Next thing is what to wear. There were a lot of dancers there so obviously there were leotards everywhere but if you aren't really a dancer then some leggings and a tighter workout tank or shirt or even a t-shirt is fine! Although I am not dancer, I have had some dance in college for my major so I had dance shoes which are the best but some people were in tennis shoes, socks or bare foot. You want to wear tighter clothes so they can see how your body is moving! Brighter colors too! For girls, your hair should be out of your face. I had mine half up and it was fine. As for piercings, take them out! I took out all of my piercings especially my nose ring because you aren't allowed to wear those when your on the job at Disney anyway. Next, you should have a bag with a snack or water bottle because you don't know how long you could be there! If you have attended  an audition before then you know what to bring. On the day of my audition, it started at 10:30. I went into the dance studio at 9:45 and I got in line for check-in. Check-in was just posting our information down and getting a number! I was 97 :) When I got in line I started talking to this guy and girl and we are friends now and plan to hang out when we get to Disney! You want to talk to people because Disney loves to see you interacting with others! As for the audition, we learned a simple dance and performed it. Right after, the 197 people that were there got cut down to about 30! Disney is really specific with every audition so if you don't get through it, it's okay! I was cut after the first dance but I am going to keep trying for sure! DCP: Acceptance!

I waited anxiously to hear back from Disney after I completed my phone interview. Every single day I would check my dashboard just hoping for a response. I had received an e-mail the day after my phone interview that decisions would be made by April 20th. APRIL 20TH? I could not wait that long! To pass the time I found a lot of vlogs on YouTube. I still watch them and I have my favorites! If you would like to know who they are just comment below! Anyways, February 19th I was sitting in the library waiting to go to class watching vlogs and someone in a video mentioned the Facebook page and how she saw people with the same first letter of her last name getting accepted and she went on onto her dashboard and she had got accepted. Now, I did not think that was how it worked but I don't how Disney does it so I decided to find the Facebook page for Disney College Program FA/Fall 2015. When I got to the page, people were posting their acceptances and of course I was looking at the letter of their last name but their were no B last names that I seen. I started commenting on people's acceptances and telling them congrats and commenting on other posts that were people who were not accepted yet. As it got closer to class time I decided that was not going to spend too much time on the page because I did not want to overwhelm myself because the anxiety of waiting was bad enough! I thought to myself all the time that I was not going to get in. It was too good to be true for me. But, I still have a little hope deep inside. When 3:05 rolled around I went to my English class and I sat "listening" to the talk about our readings the night before. At 3:15, I looked down and I saw an e-mail pop up from Disney recruiting and there it was! In all of its glory, an e-mail that read CONGRATULATIONS! I immediately smiled and thought OMG this can not be real! I had an hour of class left and let me tell you it drug by as I was trying to keep the tears back! I went to check my role and I was given merchandise! I wanted to tell everyone about it but I was glued to that seat and still I have no idea to this day what the rest of our lecture was about! It was finally 4:20 and I ran out of the class room and called my mom and we both freaked out! My boyfriend was so happy for me too, we went out to celebrate that night! I only waited 2 weeks and 2 days to hear back and I am so thankful to be given this opportunity!

DCP phone interview process and tips!

Oh my goodness, the phone interview! When I received the e-mail after my WBI, it said that it was now time to schedule the phone interview. It gave me two available dates and I chose February 6th at 1:30 pm! Now, what was the phone interview and what did it consist of? I had no idea! I went straight to YouTube and look up videos on the phone interview process and what it was all about. I found some very useful tips from people in their videos and if I could thank them all I would! Now, how does the phone interview process work? First, you schedule your available day and time. Then, you study up! I went to the Disney internship page and click on everything and read about everything. From the Disney look to Disney housing! You are going to want to study the whole website and become familiar with it because they could ask you anything on the phone. I made notes for my interview and some things I included was my top 5 roles, my work history, and a brief overview about why I wanted to do the Disney College Program. The interviewer can call you up to 30 minutes before to after your phone interview so you want to be ready in a quiet spot with good reception earlier than your scheduled time. When she called, at 1:28 pm,  I was super nervous. I answered with "Hello, this is Shelbie" which is exactly how everyone should answer the phone but with your own name of course! :) She answered back with her name which I did not understand because she was talking a little fast. Try and listen very carefully for their name because you should use it again when you say thank you or nice talking to you or something like that. Next thing we talked about my application and that everything was correct and it was so she moved on to my work history and we talked about the two jobs that I had in the past. Now, in some interviews I had watched on YouTube, the interviewer would ask what are you top 3-5 roles but in my interview she asked me in which roles would my work history help me succeed better in and naturally mine was merchandise because I work in retail and have a good bit of experience in it. Also, I said character attendant and character performer. Now, character performer is something you have to pass an audition to do so she asked me if I was attending one and I said I was and it was on March 8th in Charlotte, NC and she said she was going to put my name down and they would be expecting me. After them she ask some general questions such as: why do you want to do the Disney College Program, do you work better in a group or independently, how would you handle customers in bad weather, what would you do if you had a difficult customer, have you had roommates before, were your roommate experience overall good, do you like to work at a pass pace or slow, can you work outside or inside, etc. I tried to answer all these questions to the best of my ability with out saying um or like. DO NOT SAY UM OR LIKE. It is just not professional. Lastly, she asked me if I had any questions for her and you ALWAYS want to ask them questions no matter what it is. I asked her how classes worked with work schedules and how she got started at Disney. They love to talk about their experiences and how they got started and I was interested to hear. When she finished, she told me thank you for interviewing and to continue checking my dashboard for a decision when it was made and that was that. My interview only lasted for 18 minutes and she told me at the beginning it would only last up to 20 minutes so that was a good amount of time. Right after my interview, I received an e-mail saying thank you for interviewing and the wait began...

DCP application process!


They didn't open the website for applications until January 26th! I was in the library on campus and received an e-mail that the Disney College Program would start taking acceptances that day. A couple hours later, in English class, I decided to apply and give it shot. I mean, why not? I filled out the application and it was like a  regular job application. At the beginning it had me create a username and password for my dashboard which I would log into on Disney Internship's page to keep up with the process of my application. After, I got to the portion talking about each role they offer. Now, I had no clue what the application process or the interview process was about going into it. I went into the whole process on a whim. When I arrived to the positions, it had me go through them all and rate each one as highly interested, interested, or no interest. So, I read through them and after I finished I submitted the application about 3:30 pm. When I got out of my last class for that day, it was 5:45 pm and I checked my e-mail and I had an e-mail from Disney internships saying we would like for you to do a wed based interview for us, so that was like an assessment test that some companies make you take before you are considered for the job. I went home and did the WBI and every single question was timed and you only had about 20 seconds to answer the questions. The questions were general and real basic questions about how you are in the workplace and describing you. I completed the WBI in about 30 minutes and then right after received another email for a phone interview. A PHONE INTERVIEW?

Introduction: A little about me :)

Hey everyone!

My name is Shelbie Brakefield and I'm from South Carolina! I am currently a senior at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. I study theatre and will be graduating in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts. I wanted to start this blog because I had dreamed of working for Disney for a long time. I heard about the college program during my junior year but when I found out it was something college students did during a semester of college, I knew it would be impossible because I could not afford to take a semester off. So, I didn't think about it anymore until around Christmas time and talked to a couple of people that had done the program. I found out that as long as you submit your application while still enrolled in college, you could do the program after you graduate and I thought that was a opportunity for me to just apply and see what happens.
